Headline of your article is very important as this alone persuades or dissuades your reader from venturing further in to the article. A good headline can generate curiosity in reader. A reader takes few seconds, as less as fifteen seconds, to go through headline of article and decide whether to proceed into the article or not.
Essential Aspects of a Headline
• Headlines should be free of errors of spelling or information. Misspellings create a mindset that the article would also be the same. Wrong information in headline is very damaging.
• Headlines should be simple and easy to understand. Using catchy phrases in headlines could make it ambiguous. It may not be in sync with the article and its content.
• If writing a keyword article, include relevant keyword in your headline. Amalgamate keyword in such a way that it does not look imposing and at the same time increases significance of headline.
• Do not write your headline in a hurry. Instead, take sufficient time to make your headline interesting, meaningful, and creative.
• Your headline should be never offensive. You should not be a party to offensive writing that could cause harm to any section of people or their interests. Instead, present facts as they are and allow readers to come to their own decisions.
Capitalize only the first letters of each word in your headline. Do not use capitals throughout your entire headline.
• Allow your friends or other close relatives to read through your headline and give their comments or suggestions. You may sometimes overlook simple facts which others may be able to pinpoint.
• Think and plan your headline giving sufficient time for your thoughts to develop and take proper form. Grammatical aspects of a headline should be correct. Refrain from using words that can either be a noun or a verb. Use punctuations correctly. Use short and active action verbs. Although synonyms can prove useful, judge their utility before usage.
